Transformation through Fabric

Eleven embroidered vintage photographs

Born in Alabama in 1966, I currently live and work in New York. I work in a variety of media: collage, photography, assemblage and drawing, often using found objects and materials. Recently I went through a spell of making dolls and became interested in sewing as a way to draw with thread. My series of embroidered vintage photographs is my most recent way to reclaim and transform, to give or find new meaning, to re-enliven forgotten objects. I have been influenced by other artists working with textiles and more specifically with embroidery, such as Louise Bourgeois, Maurizio Anzeri and Stacey Page.
